Details: In an effort to honor the victims of 9/11, retired United Airlines Captain John McDannel has been working with many different local governmental entities in an effort to dedicate an existing street named New York Drive in Pasadena as "New York Drive:  A Memorial to 9/11/2001". In addition to the city officials, police, and fire agencies that are planning on being in attendance for the dedication, John is attempting to arrange a 4 ship Marine F-18 flyby. John would like as many interested pilots and flight attendants as possible to attend the dedication in uniform.

Details: On the tenth anniversary of the September 11 terrorist attacks the 9/11 Memorial will serve as an appropriate backdrop for reflection and community gathering. A ceremony will be held by North Metro Fire Rescue District, the Broomfield Police Department, and the City & County of Broomfield. All events are free and open to the public.

Speakers will include: Jack McDonnell, retired FDNY Battalion Chief and Michael Faughnan, Colorado resident who lost brother in Twin Towers attack. Local Honor Guards, bagpiper, and bugler will also participate. Ceremony is anticipated to last approximately 1 hour.

As a special tribute, a miniature field of United States Flags will be placed along the pathway from the amphitheater to the 9/11 Memorial. Each small flag will be individually labeled with the name of one of the 3,023 people who died in the terrorist attacks that day.

Immediately following the ceremony, attendees can take their time at Memorial Grounds. A quintet from the Denver Municipal Band will perform from noon to 1:00 p.m. Their free concert will include a variety of patriotic selections for the crowd to enjoy.

Details: This is the official event for the greater Colorado Springs area and will include distinguished speakers, honor guards from the fire, police and the USAF Academy, a choir and a flyby by the Colorado National Guard. Details: Artist Leoma Lovegrove will paint a billboard size canvas depicting the American eagle to music and live testimonies. The live event is the culmination of a community wide art project in which members of the public painted names of those who perished on the 18 by 10 foot canvas. The names will thus form the basis of the final artwork. The event is free and open to the public but tickets are required.

Details: hawaii eventThe pubic is invited to attend a special 9/11 commemoration at 11 a.m. on the campus of Honolulu Community College on Monday, September 12.  The college is home to a permanent 9/11 memorial that was dedicated in September 2006. The United States flag replica was crafted by Honolulu CC sheet metal students and contains compartments with actual pieces of the World Trade Center, the Pentagon roof, and soil from the field in which United Flight 93 crashed in Stonycreek Township, Pennsylvania near Shanksville. This memorial site is one of the few in America with crime scene evidence from all three places on public display.  Throughout the commemoration will be a color guard presentation, playing of the bag pipes, patriotic music, hula, and lei draping, as students of the ‘9/11 generation’ share their perspective of the events that have shaped our nation’s history forever.  United Airlines Flight Attendants are welcome to attend, in uniform if you are comfortable doing so.

Details: Please join me in honoring those who gave their lives on 9/11/01.  The ceremony will include vehicles, members, and equipment form all branches of the military, Police, Fire, and Paramedics.  We will also have a fly over of a Air Force C-130 Hercules aircraft from the 934 Air Wing.  A structural I-Beam recovered from the World Trade Center will be at the ceremony.  This I-Beam is untouched from its recovered condition, and will be open to the public.  Local artist Elissa Roessier will be singing the National anthem, and a combined honor guard consisting of members of all armed forces, police, fire, ems, VFW and American Legion will be posting the colors.  The ceremony will end with bag pipes and a procession of the I-Beam to Fire Station # 1 where it will be dedicated as a permanent memorial to the 9/11 victims.  Anyone in uniform is encouraged to show up in uniform (Boy/Girl scouts included) so they may participate in a ceremonial gauntlet to be formed as we walk the I-Beam out of the stadium to the awaiting fire truck (symbolic of bodies being recovered from the World Trade Center). More info: http://coonrapidsmn.gov/Pdf/911Event.pdf.

Details: LeRoy Homer was one of the two pilots on United Flight 93, which crashed in Shanksville, Pa.  The Aug. 20 event, which includes dinner, drinks and a silent auction, will be held at the Laurel Creek Country Club in Mount Laurel, New Jersey. Tickets cost $100. The event will benefit the LeRoy W. Homer Jr. Foundation scholarship awards program. Scholarships are awarded on an annual basis to aspiring young adults who wish to pursue careers as professional pilots. The foundation also promotes awareness about aviation careers to disadvantaged youth.
