United's Business Education Classes - Preference Month Bidding

As being reported in earlier editions of Dear AFA, a business education class is being designed by United for all employees of our airline.  The class will be rolled out in April 2007 and will have about 100 people in size with a mixture of employees from all departments.  The classes will be conducted by Flight Attendants and other employees.  While we continue to approach this management idea with a healthy dose of cynicism through our experience with previously failed ventures such as "Mission United," we will continue working to influence the effectiveness of this training.   The class will be paid according to Section 15 of our Contract and bidding for the class will be similar to that of RET.

Starting Monday, February 12th, both Lineholders and Reserves can preference a month in which to attend this class.  The preference month bidding for this class will close on Saturday, February 24th at 0700 Chicago time.  The preference months will be awarded in seniority order based on a pre-determined amount of seat availability in the classes.  Once the preference month is awarded, you may bid a desired date prior to the awarded month as we currently do with bidding for RET.  Please keep in mind this program is being offered for some domiciles at two locations and if your preference month happens to be your Reserve month, you will be assigned a class date.  If you are a holding a line in your preference month, you must bid for a class or you will be assigned.  If you do not bid a preference month, or cannot hold what you bid, you will be assigned a preference month in inverse seniority order.
