April 18, 2008 - Call your Representative and Senators to ask them to co-sponsor House Resolution 2744 (H.R. 2744) in the House and Senate Bill 2059 (S. 2059) in the Senate. As of today, we have 232 co-sponsors in the House and 16 in the Senate. That's great, but we can't rest until we have this benefit under the law.
February 19, 2008 - Last week AFA and ALPA sent a joint letter to United to enlist the corporation's support for the "Airline Flight Crew Technical Corrections Act," so that every United employee can have equal access to FMLA. We need to flood Congressional offices with phone calls from Flight Attendants to encourage quick passage of the long over-due correction to FMLA.
February 5, 2008 - There are still 28 primaries remaining between now and June 3rd. These primaries are not only a good opportunity to choose a candidate we believe will best support our issues as Flight Attendants, it's also a good opportunity to become familiar with the voting process, ensure your voter registration in intact and learn about early or absentee voting.
January 3, 2008 - With all of the attention on the Iowa Caucuses, it may be helpful to review background on the caucus system.
December 11, 2007 - Congress is expected to go into recess by this Saturday so that representatives and their staff can spend the holidays with their families. This week is the perfect time to call on our Senators to clarify FMLA for Flight Attendants and pilots so that we can have the same protections afforded every other worker when our families need us most. We especially need Members in AK, AZ, MN, OR & PA to make calls.
December 11, 2007 - Political operatives in the Department of Labor are using federal reporting requirements to undermine trade unions and conduct a "political misinformation campaign" against them, a report released yesterday charges.
October 26, 2007 - CWA is encouraging Members to run for seats as delegates of the 2008 Democratic or Republican national conventions to help fight to issues vital for the American worker to be included as part of the parties' platforms and candidates' campaigns.
October 26, 2007 - We have tremendous power on Capitol Hill when we make our voices heard and hold our elected representatives accountable. Since 1993, the FMLA has benefited so many workers across the country it is only right that we have an equal opportunity to qualify for these benefits. Let's take this issue off the negotiating table and get the benefits Congress originally intended to provide for all workers.

As Flight Attendants, we work in a highly regulated environment. Decisions which affect our safety and security, our work environment and our job security are routinely made in Washington, D.C.
AFA maintains a voice in the political process to express the concerns of Flight Attendants on issues which impact our security and safety, our health, our workplace, the safety of our passengers, and our rights to union representation.
Government Affairs and FlightPAC, are designed to represent AFA's lobbying and political action efforts.
Our grassroots activities are intended to educate elected officials about aviation issues to ensure they are aware of our views. Lobbying is an essential component of a successful union program.
Now, more than ever, it is crucial for AFA to maintain a strong presence in the political arena to ensure Flight Attendant interests are protected and Flight Attendant concerns are heard. On this page you can read about what AFA-CWA is doing to meet that challenge.
This session of Congress some of the issues we have lobbied include:
Information and education on these issues is the first step to action.
AFA-CWA's Government Affairs Department works diligently to ensure that legislators are aware of our views on important issues and then organizes the activities of the Government Affairs Committee . The Government Affairs Committee members lobby Senators and Representatives on AFA's legislative issues and work to establish an on-going relationship with these offices.
Through these efforts, AFA is now a regular presence on Capitol Hill, however one voice is more powerful than any other – yours.
This section of the United AFA web site will give you the opportunity to get involved in the legislative and political activities of our union and to learn more about FlightPAC, our Political Action Committee.
