Take Action: Calls to Senators Needed Early this Week

May 16, 2007

OSHASince we called for legislative action for workplace safety and health on May 5th, airline executives have launched a massive campaign to fight against these protections for Flight Attendants and the traveling public.  We can’t let them get away with this and we need every Member to take action NOW.

The Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) has refused or failed to take action for workplace safety and health protections AFA has fought to advance for over 30 years.  We continued to be denied even basic protections such as onboard sanitation standards. This impacts the safety and health of Flight Attendants and the traveling public in our care.

We are at a critical juncture in our efforts to secure safety and health improvements in the FAA Reauthorization bill, which is due for reauthorization by Congress this year. Senate offices need to hear from their constituents that OSHA protections must be included in FAA Reauthorization while the Senate drafts its version of the bill.  Call both of your Senators today to urge them to make OSHA workplace safety and health protections part of the FAA Reauthorization bill.

It is especially important that the Senator members of the Senate Commerce Committee are urged to take the necessary action to help protect our health and safety.  If one of them is your Senator, make sure they hear from you.  The committee Members are indicated with bold type and a star (*) in front of their names.

Congressional offices are very busy right now, but we encourage you to call your Senator’s offices and leave the following message with their receptionist:

Hello.  My name is ______, I live in (town, state) and I am a member of the Association of Flight Attendants-CWA.

I am calling to urge Senator ________ to help ensure that OSHA workplace safety and health protections are included in the upcoming FAA Reauthorization bill.  Flight Attendants have waited for over 30 years just to see basic protections such as onboard sanitation standards.

The lack of these protections not only jeopardizes Flight Attendants but also the traveling public in our care.

Please make sure that the Senator gets this message.

Thank you.

Call your Senators today and stay tuned for further updates!
Remain engaged and informed.  Some of our biggest battles are before us.
