Call Congress by Thursday to Restore Our Pensions

December 14, 2005

urgent actionUnited Flight Attendants have brought our country’s pension crisis to the forefront of the public policy debate in Washington DC and throughout the country.  Congress has been moved to act for the millions of Americans whose retirement security is at risk – but United Flight Attendants cannot be forgotten when lawmakers take action.  The House of Representatives is expected to vote this Thursday on pension legislation, HR 2830, written by Representatives John Boehner of Ohio and Bill Thomas of California

Our message is simple: “Remember United Flight Attendants and support the Miller-Rangel substitute to HR 2830.”

As it stands, this legislation would do nothing to restore our pensions at United or address the backroom deal between United and the Pension Benefit Guarantee Corporation.  But tonight we have learned that Representatives George Miller of California and Charles Rangel of New York will offer a substitute to the bill that would restore our pension plan and give us the opportunity to challenge the terminations of our plan in court under new, fairer standards.

We need every AFA Member to call your Representative’s Washington DC office immediately.  Our message is simple:

“Remember United Flight Attendants and support the Miller-Rangel substitute to HR 2830.”

Contact information for the House of Representatives and your personal Representative may be found on our website at www.unitedafa.org or at www.house.gov.  Take action immediately and encourage your friends and families to do the same by this Thursday, December 15th.  Take just a few moments now to make the call for years of retirement security.
