Retiree Pass Travel

Updated: July 30, 2003

With the change of United’s pass travel policy, the company is now charging United retirees for pass travel as if they are an active employee. In most cases, pass travel benefits are subject to company policy, but the Letter of Agreement on page 288 of our Contract speaks specifically to “unlimited, free, space available transportation to any North American destination including Hawaii” for retired Flight Attendants with at least ten (10) years of service.

On April 30, 2003, AFA filed the grievance, MEC 7-03 to formally dispute this company practice and request an arbitrator to grant relief for those retirees who have been adversely affected.

Until we come to a resolution to this issue with the Company or an arbitrator renders a decision, we encourage all retirees to stay current with United’s travel charges to avoid the discontinuation of travel benefits. Keep copies of United’s travel charges and your payments, in the event reimbursement is ordered.
