Hank Krakowski
Vice President
Flight Safety, Security & Quality Assurance
United Airlines
PO Box 66100
Chicago, IL 60666

Dear Hank,

I would like to thank you, and all others involved, for voluntarily complying with the FAA recommendations to descend to lower altitudes during the recent solar storms. Marge and I had the opportunity to listen to the efforts put forth by Len Salinas the meteorology and dispatch groups to mitigate the effects of the solar bursts. We now have a greater appreciation for the proactive position our Company takes in an effort to safeguard the health of our passengers and crew members.

As you know, there were occasions when the solar radiation reached the S4 level. Joni Teragawachi and I will be working collaboratively to establish a process to address the needs of our Flight Attendant demographic most affected by the radiation emitted during some solar flares.
Again, I thank you, and your entire team, for the efforts involved.

Regards,

Valerie Walker
Chairperson
Safety, Health & Security Committee
