Letter Council 6 President
Dear Council 6 Members,
This morning, January 25, at 9am the Company announced the notice for the closing of the greatest of all bases the EWR domicile on May 31. They also announced the closure of PHL and CDG. While not totally unexpected, it is a great disappointment for all of us. We are disappointed to see United abandon our market, we are disappointed on so many personal levels and we are disappointed the Company was not honest with us these many months as the rumors circulated. After all the sacrifices we have made since 2001 through bankruptcy, this disruption to our lives is the ultimate burden. I am disgusted with management’s lack of candor and consideration.
We will be meeting with the Company next Thursday, February 2 and exploring whatever alternatives and relief is available to mitigate the harm this action will create. Rest assured we will be fighting for everything we can get. We will have a full report with more information after the meeting. Don’t forget the Special Meeting already scheduled for the Tentative agreement. We will be adding to the agenda a discussion of the base closing:

The next few months will be very stressful on all of us. Don’t let the speculation train take you away before we have more concrete information. We will be faced with some difficult personal decisions. Be extra kind to each other and patient with each other as we each work out the next phase of our lives at United. Don’t forget about our EAP committee if the stress starts to get to you. Don’t forget what wonderful memories we have and how lucky we have been to be based at EWR and part of Council 6. Everyone of us will always be Council 6 Flight Attendants, we have so many of our flying partners waiting to welcome us in other locations.
