Ladies and Gentlemen:
Today the company made an announcement that further impacts our Flight Attendant community. Including the 90 day notice required in Section 22.D. of our Contract, the company announced its intention to close the Paris Flight Attendant domicile as of May 1, 2006 and the Newark domicile and the Philadelphia modified co-terminal as of May 31, 2006.
Over the past few years we have experienced the unique difficulties a base closure announcement will bring for our Members in Paris, Newark and Philadelphia through domicile closures in Miami, Taipei and Santiago. We will be working with the Local Presidents, Karen Mazuer in EWR Council 6; Terry Knoy in PHL Council 23; and Sharon Benjamin in CDG Council 24 to ensure the best advocacy for our affected Members. Each of these Local Presidents is in the process of scheduling meetings with the company. For those Members who are based in these locations, we encourage you to contact your Local President to share your questions and concerns prior to their meeting with United.
In addition to the domicile closures, the company also announced the centralization of the crew desks beginning on April 1, 2006 with the LAX crew desk closing, soon followed by SFO, DEN and ORD. By the end of 2006 everything will be centralized out of OPBSK. There will also be changes to supervisor duties, some of which will be reallocated to the Flight Attendant Service Center. We will be addressing with the company the issues associated with these changes as well.
It is important that our solidarity and support remain focused for our Union brothers and sisters. Please join the United Master Executive Council in offering support and assistance to our friends and flying partners directly impacted by today’s announcement.
In Solidarity,
| Greg Davidowitch President |
Helen McArdle Vice President |
Shirley Barber Secretary-Treasurer |
