2008 Early Out Letter of Agreement

Flight Attendant Voluntary Early Out Summary

Basic Qualification: Age 45 with 15 years of Flight Attendant Service

Eligibility

Minimum 15 years of Flight Attendant service
AND
Age 55 or greater
Minimum 15 years of Flight Attendant service
AND
Age 45 or greater

Early Out Severance Pay

$500 for each year of service as a Flight Attendant up to 25 years ($12,500 cap).  Total pay is distributed in 12 equal installments beginning January 2009. Example:
18 years of Flight Attendant service equals $9000.  This would be paid out at $750 per month, before taxes, for 12 months.

Travel

“Retiree Travel” consistent with your retirement package. Travel Benefit equivalent to the “retiree travel” program.

Medical Insurance

Retiree Medical as defined in Contract Section 33.A.3.v. No Insurance.
Option to purchase COBRA for continued medical coverage for 18 months at the full cost of the insurance and administration.

Life Insurance

Retiree Life Insurance as defined in Contract Section 33.F.6. No Life Insurance

Pension

Early Out Doesn’t Change Pension.
The Pension is administered by the PBGC.  The retiree would contact the PBGC to select pension payment options.
Early Out Doesn’t Change Pension.
The Pension is administered by the PBGC.  The employee leaving United would contact the PBGC to select pension payment options beginning as soon as the plan early retirement age.

Vacation

All accrued vacation is paid out as defined in Contract Section 18. All accrued vacation is paid out as defined in Contract Section 18.

Eligible to Bid

  • All Flight Attendants, active or on leave, may bid for the early out assuming other eligibility factors are met.
  • Bids may be submitted via Unimatic at DIS*48805

*Retirement eligibility has not changed.  Flight Attendants may still choose to retire with 10 years of company service and 55 years of age.  This chart is specific to the Early Out Program.
