HRE Committee
During the month of May, we honor and celebrate Asian American and Pacific Islander Heritage Month. Asian American and Pacific Islander (AAPI) refers to a diverse group of people in the United States with roots in Asia and the Pacific Islands, including East Asia, Southeast Asia, South Asia, and regions like Hawaii, Guam, and Samoa.
This community includes many cultures, languages, and histories, representing people from countries such as China, Japan, Korea, India, the Philippines, Vietnam, and more. We honor AAPI communities to recognize their lasting contributions to society in areas like culture, science, business, and public service, as well as to acknowledge the challenges they have faced, including discrimination and exclusion.
Continuing to celebrate AAPI is important because it promotes understanding, inclusion, and respect, while ensuring that the stories, achievements, and voices of these communities remain visible and valued in an ever evolving society.
This May, we invite you to wear your AFA AAPI pin proudly all month long. If you don’t have an AFA AAPI pin, simply stop by your Local Council office or look out for AFA volunteers walking the terminals.
