October is National Breast Cancer Awareness Month, and this year, our focus is on support, screenings, and elevating survivor stories within the Flight Attendant Community. According to research by the National Breast Cancer Foundation, 1 in 8 women in the United States will be diagnosed with breast cancer in her lifetime. In 2025, 316,950 women in the United States are expected to receive a new diagnosis of invasive breast cancer, along with about 2,800 men, as well as 59,080 new cases of non-invasive breast cancer. While breast cancer cannot always be prevented, regular screenings and prompt follow-up significantly boost the chances of successful treatment.
This month, AFA volunteers will be walking through the terminals with purpose, providing members with health resources and support. Our goal is to raise awareness and ensure our members have access to vital health resources.
Throughout October, we invite everyone touched by breast cancer, patients, survivors, family, and friends, to share in a spirit of support and resilience. If you have beaten breast cancer or are currently undergoing treatment, your story can offer hope and practical guidance to others. Feel free to share what helped you, offer words of encouragement, and, if comfortable, include a photo. We will publish your story with your name and base or remain anonymous, based on your preference. To contribute, please email HumanRights@UnitedAFA.org with your story, specifying whether you'd like to include your name and base, and provide a photo if you would like.
By raising awareness and standing with our flying partners affected by breast cancer, we keep the conversation going and provide meaningful support where it’s needed most. Together, we are here to offer our support and provide a path forward for every member embarking on this journey.
Wear your AFA Breast Cancer Awareness Pin and support the fight!
