Plan for End of Month (EOM) Conflicts

Contract Section 7.E. - Month to Month Line Adjustments

With September bids due in a few days, be sure to consider if your bid award could possibly create an End of Month Conflict and make a plan if it should happen.

Referencing Contract Section 7.E. Month to Month Line Adjustments and paying attention to the first page (calendar) of the bid packet cover letter, you can ensure you are not caught off-guard with the contractual process that occurs when there is an end-of-month pairing in this bid month that overlaps a pairing in the new bid month, or when the two pairings from both months cause a legality issue when bid awards come out.

Reserves also need to pay attention to End of Month 1-in-7 conflicts and fix it prior to the first day of the new bid month - or the 1-in-7 - is considered waived. See this previous article if you are a Reserve.

NOTE: Flight Attendants are not subject to Adjustment if the new month is a vacation month.

Flight Attendants are subject to Adjustment if the conflict pairing in the new month causes a decrease in line value of 3+ hours and the Flight Attendant did not fix the conflict themselves when mutual trading/ advertising begins at 1700 Home Domicile Time on the 18th of the month.

The window for fixing the conflict yourself in this manner ends at 2359 on the evening of the 19th.

  • Always try to advertise or mutual-trade the conflicting pairing away (right away!) if you wish to avoid having another pairing placed in your line to make up the line-value time lost to +/- 3 hours. (or up to 5 hours if no other solutions are available that meet the criteria).

  • If the Flight Attendant did not fix the conflict themselves during the initial Mutual Trade window, their Mutual Trades will be temporarily suspended at 2359 Central time on the 19th of the month until the conflict is resolved.

  • The Self-Adjustment window ((fixing the conflict with open-time pairings) opens at 0600 Central on the 20th of the month and closes at 0600 Central on the 21st of the month. In CCS, under the Schedule tab, click on Self-Adjustment to find selected pairings to choose from to have a second chance to fix the conflict yourself. These pairing solutions in the Self-Adjustment screen on CCS are first-come/ first-served because these solutions may also be available in other Flight Attendant’s Self-Adjustment screens.
  • If Flight Attendants do not utilize the first two options above (Mutual Trades or Self-Adjustment window) to fix the EOM conflict, scheduling will resolve the conflict with any legal pairing that meets the +/- 3 hour of line value criteria -on any open day in your schedule. (or up to 5 hours if no other solutions are available that meet the criteria).

IMPORTANT: If scheduling has no pairings available to resolve the conflict, they can place RA days (reserve days) on your line, on days originally scheduled to fly, to adjust your line value unless you have indicated in CCS “do not use” in the Adjustment Request screen under the Schedule tab before bids close at 0800 Home Domicile Time on the 17th. You may request no RA days for up to 5 months at a time.
