Reassignments Overview

As we move into the winter season, Irregular Operations (IRROPs) become an expected part of our operation. With weather-related disruptions, aircraft swaps, cancellations, and misconnects on the rise, reassignments naturally increase, making Section 7.Q. of our Contract more important than ever to become familiar with.

Even though IRROPs are inevitable, being prepared is entirely within our control. One of the most effective ways to protect yourself is to understand the different types of reassignments and know what steps to take when they occur. Familiarity with Section 7.Q. not only safeguards your Contractual Rights but also gives you clarity and confidence in the moment, ensuring you’re positioned to take the right next steps in any reassignment scenario.

Below is a basic overview of each section under the 7.Q. Reassignment Process:

7.Q.1. - Immediate Reassignments

  • A pairing or portion of the pairing has been lost on the same day before ANY departure. You are subject to RX within 4:00 hours of notification. You may be RX to a pairing on the same day or following day*.
*If RX is following day, Hotel will be provided UPON REQUEST

7.Q.3. - Scheduled Reassignments

  • Notice of One or More Calendar Day
  • If you lose your pairing a calendar day or more in advance, at the time contact is made with Crew Scheduling to notify of the loss of flight time, you may immediately be reassigned to a replacement pairing or be released.

7.Q.5. - Downline Reassignments

  • After leaving base, having operated at least one flight, you are reassignable with key parts in mind.
    - Return to base within 12 hours of original arrival
    - 7.Q.5.b. ROD owed or 5 hours of pay
    - Receives $15 per hour RX Pay for all time on duty beyond the original scheduled arrival time of trip lost

7.Q.6. - Illegal for Next Assignment

  • Arrival creates an existing later assignment to become ineligible to be flown. You MUST call Scheduling as soon as possible upon return to home domicile from the pairing that caused the INE.

If you believe your reassignment is not being adhered to, request clarification from Crew Scheduling. Be sure to retain the details of the conversation and contact your Local Council to have a discussion and follow up if necessary. Our goal is to empower you with knowledge so that when reassignments happen, you have an understanding of what to expect and what protections the Contract provides for.
