The Attendance Point System- A Refresher

Written by Admin | Oct 8, 2026, 4:11:16 PM

Our Contract outlines how attendance and dependability are tracked using an attendance point system that is recorded in our electronic work history.

A common misconception is a belief that points are discipline. Flight Attendants should understand that points are not discipline. Points accumulate per occurrence and should be viewed as a form of a tracking or accounting system. As points accumulate to defined levels, Attendance Warnings are issued at specific thresholds outlined in the Contract and illustrated in the table below.

Attendance Warnings are the attendance discipline, not the individual occurrences that generate points.

CBA 2026 moved the language for Attendance and Dependability Point Values from Section 23 Investigations & Grievance in the JCBA to Section 22.D. Personnel Files.

To reiterate: the Level of Discipline column in the table above shows the discipline.

The Point Accrual column represents tracking occurrences that generate points accrual.

Note: Once on an Attendance Warning, the individual point occurrences no longer carry an expiration date, instead, the Attendance Warning carries the expiration date.

Points will continue to accrue while on an Attendance Warning until the next Attendance Warning Level is reached (which also sets a new expiration date) OR until the current Attendance Warning expires.

Note: When an Attendance Warning expires, ALL Attendance Points drop off (even those that are less than 12 months old) and you exit the Attendance track with ZERO points.

Example: An Attendance Warning 1 was issued on October 14, 2025 at 6 points.

The Flight Attendant had two additional sick occurrences between October 14, 2025 and today, bringing their points accumulation to 10 points.

The Attendance Warning 1, including all 10 points expire at the end of the day on October 13, 2026, assuming the Flight Attendant was active all 12 months.

The table below illustrates attendance occurrences and the point value assigned to each:

If utilizing a physician’s note, ensure it includes:

  • Date of illness or injury
  • Date of examination
  • Date of return to work
  • Signature of physician or designee that includes the physician's printed name, address and work phone number.
  • Submit to your supervisor on or before the next scheduled pairing

It is important to know that Contract Section 22.D.8. places the responsibility on the Flight Attendant to know the status of their point accumulation. Check your work history in CCS to verify accuracy. Flight Attendants have 30 days to appeal an Attendance Warning if they have a dispute and should contact their Local Council.

Additional notes to keep in mind:

  • Discipline follows two tracks: Attendance and Performance, with four levels of warning for each. Being on Attendance Level 4 (24+ points) and Performance Warning Level 4 at the same time will result in a Letter of Investigation - Discharge.
  • Sick leave is for your own medical inability to work. Never call in sick or FMLA (for yourself) if you are not sick/ injured.
  • If you cannot make it to work due to a non-sick reason, tell FAST you are “unable to report to work” and be clear it is not a sick call.
  • A Missed Trip / Did Not Fly is a far better outcome than termination resulting from an investigation for suspected Sick Leave Abuse.

Contact your Local Council if you have additional questions.
