What’s Changed?

It is important to note that under the 2026 - 2031 Collective Bargaining Agreement (CBA), changes have occurred in the application of the absence certificate requirements under section 13.C.4. The new sections are listed below.

Virtual or phone visits do qualify

This note must be submitted to Company Medical on or before check-in time of a Lineholder’s first trip or a Reserve’s first assignment including Standby Reserve, following an illness or injury.

How to Comply with the Absence Certificate Requirement

  • Flight Attendants must see a Health Care Provider no later than 72 hours of notifying Scheduling of illness/injury.
  • The Absence Certificate must be signed by the Health Care Provider and submitted to United Medical via Help Hub before your next assignment (Lineholder trip or Reserve standby/assignment).
  • Allow two business weekdays for processing.
  • If not submitted by your next assignment, you have 72 hours after that trip or assignment to turn it in. Failure to do so may result in disciplinary action.

If you have had no absences in the past 12 calendar months, this requirement does not apply.
