The company has corrected their process to adhere to provisions of Deadhead Deviation (3.I.12 and 3.I.13) as they relate to Combined Duty (7.I.16). This change aligns with our understanding of how these sections of the Contract were intended to be implemented.
Prior to the correction, Flight Attendants were deviating (FAKE) from a deadhead in the middle of a combined duty period, or what would become a combined duty period. The provisions of 3.I.12. and 3.I.13. were never intended to be applied in the middle of combined duty pairings.
The company allowing Flight Attendants to deviate outside of the provisions of our Contract leaves Members without protections for legalities and discipline associated with being out of position.
When a Flight Attendant opts to combine duty periods from two pairings, they are essentially creating a new pairing (combined duty period). The original ending of the first pairing and beginning of the second pairing now fall in the middle of the new combined pairing. Any deadhead segments that now fall in the middle of the combined duty period cannot be deviated (FAKE). Flight Attendants maintain the ability to deviate (FAKE) a deadhead on the first and/or the last segment of the new combined pairing.
