CBA Section 2.O Flight Time
Know your rights under the CBA (Collective Bargaining Agreement).
Summer weather often brings irregular operations that include diversions. When this happens, it’s important to remember that your Contract protects Flight Time Pay in specific situations.
What the contract says:
Section 2.O.1. Actual Flight Time states:
“Actual flight time (block to block) means the time from the moment an aircraft moves from the blocks under its own power or under tow for the purpose of flight, until the time the aircraft comes to rest at an unloading point. If passenger access/egress is prohibited at other than a normal unloading point, either international or domestic, flight time shall continue until passenger deplaning occurs or the flight departs.”
In plain language:
If your flight diverts and the aircraft parks somewhere other than a normal unloading point (gate or designated passenger area), and passengers are not allowed to deplane, flight time continues uninterrupted. For pay purposes, it is treated as if you are still in flight.
How to make sure you receive the pay you are entitled to:
Preferred Method (fastest):
-
Immediately after the diversion, once you have arrived at your destination, contact Scheduling.
-
Use this statement as an example:
“I diverted and I believe I get continuous flight time. Can you verify?”
-
-
The scheduler will work with the IROPS Team (available 24/7. 365 days) to verify that you qualify for continuous flight time.
-
If you qualify, IROPS will update your pairing and the scheduler will confirm the update with you.
-
If continuous flight time cannot be verified or your pairing cannot be updated, you can ask for your call to be escalated to an Assistant Manager. The Assistant Manager can verify that you qualify for continuous flight time and can update your pairing.
Alternative Option:
Submit a Help Hub general pay request. Payroll will verify the segment with Scheduling. Once Scheduling updates the pairing, your pay will be corrected.(Note: This process is slower than calling Scheduling directly.)
