As we reflect on the past year, the strength of our Union comes from informed, engaged Members and the work happening every day through our MEC Committees. From Safety and Scheduling to Benefits, Reserve advocacy, and more, these Committees take what Members experience on the line and turn it into action that makes a difference. The numbers below provide a snapshot of some of AFA's work in 2025.
Communications
- Approximately 450 articles published
- Launched a new video education series highlighting the work of MEC Committees
- Led collaborative campaigns supporting Members, including Breast Cancer Stories of Strength, Latin Heritage Month, AAPI, Black History Month, and the March 19th Day of Action
- Redeveloped the New Hire Support newsletter, Downline
Safety, Health & Security
- Reviewed and processed 12,840 ISAP and 1,663 Fatigue reports
- With the assistance of our Local Councils, reviewed 133,293 IOR reports
- Advocacy led to the reconfiguration of the 77O to provide more space at the forward cross-aisle jumpseat
- Brought a renewed focus to jumpseat harnesses that are too short
Human Rights & Equity
- Collaborated across MEC Membership Engagement, Communications, and Government Affairs Committees
- Highlighted over 30 Flight Attendants to promote diversity within our work group
Grievance
- 24 cases arbitrated
- 28 cases mediated
- 7 cases resolved at the Dispute Resolution Committee
Government Affairs
- Conducted a confidential Safe & Affordable Housing survey across five bases, with 1,413 Flight Attendants participating
- Expanded relationships with local labor federations
- Sent Members to Train the Trainer events on Runaway Inequality, equipping them to educate others on labor history and worker power
Membership Engagement
- Welcomed 42 New Hire classes, introducing approximately 3,053 new Flight Attendants to AFA
- Coordinated visibility events highlighting Breast Cancer Awareness, EAP, Power of the Pin, and Black History Month
- Partnered with Local Councils to grow and strengthen Membership Engagement Committees
Central Schedule Committee (CSC)
- Ensured over 700 pairings were added during primary bids, and 1,600+ pairings were added post-award through ESG compliance verification
- Secured additional reserve line options, averaging 8+ new lines per month
- Created a Schedule Integrity Training as a required process under AFA policy
- Advocated for management to begin the process of opening transfers into all crew bases
- Addressed Violations of Sections 7.A.1, 7.A.9.C, 7.B.4, 7.B.5.B, 7.B.6, and 7.F.1
Employee Assistance Program (EAP)
- Hosted the 2025 FADAP Conference, with the highest United AFA attendance to date
- Trained 10 new EAP Committee Members and provided advanced training to 6 additional Members of the Committee
Benefits
- Trained and mentored 40+ Local Benefits Activists
- Coordinated annual benefits enrollment with management
- Published numerous articles on FMLA rights and insurance provider changes
Hotel & Transportation
- Reviewed 2,800+ Hotel and Transportation reports
- Advanced long-standing fixes to incorrect hotel displays in bid packages, with system improvements implemented in December and more expected in 2026
- Conducted 472 hotel inspections in 97 cities
Reserve
- 146,000+ assignments were awarded through matching Reserve Preferencing criteria
- Published and distributed 1,500 updated 2025 Reserve Survival Guides
- Advocated for and launched the Touchless Check-out from Standby option, streamlining standby release
- Posted 948 Reserve Availability Lists when company technology failed
- 805 Christmas Wish List awards were granted for the 2025 holiday period
Uniforms
- Collaborated with Inflight management on multiple enhancements, including:
- Providing a uniform belt to Flight Attendants at company expense
- Designating the apron as an approved garment during meal service in Polaris and the dress as a standalone piece during service in Polaris
- Approving dress boots under specific conditions
