Pride: A Journey, Not A Destination

In June, we acknowledge the significance of Pride Month and emphasize the importance of understanding the diverse spectrum within our LGBTQIA+ Union family, community, and friends.

Throughout the decades, Pride has become a time of celebration and acceptance of a community seeking equity and equality. As laws changed and barriers were broken down we saw positive movement towards inclusion and equity across our country and in many nations around the world.

This year for many Pride has taken on a different meaning. Many in this community have had their rights trampled. Hard won laws providing equality are in jeopardy of being stripped away. While Pride will always be a time to celebrate the differences that make us great it is also a time to reaffirm our commitment to fight for equity. We will not allow the voices and rights of our flying family to be marginalized.

Pride is a time to raise visibility and advocacy for equal rights and representation for our LGBTQIA+ family, including standing strong against those who would harm them. This year we will celebrate how far we have come while acknowledging the work that is still left to be done to secure the rights of our flying family.

This June, we are kicking off a month-long campaign to highlight the vast LGBTQIA+ community within our AFA family. If you would like to submit a statement and a photo of yourself, explaining what Pride means to you, whether you are a part of the community or an ally, please send an email with your name and base to communications@unitedafa.org. Likewise, if you would like to share what Pride means to you but wish to remain anonymous, you do not need to submit your name or photo. Share your statement, your base, and your years as a Flight Attendant. Your statement will be deidentified.

Whether you are part of the community or an ally, now is the time to come together and stand in unity for PRIDE!
