Reserve Reminder: Second Assignments & Blocking-in

Share links

Due to recent severe weather events and the demands of a busy summer flying season, Flight Attendants on Reserve may see an increase in second assignments upon return to base.

As provided in Section 8.I.3.b.(2). of the JCBA, when blocking-in, Reserves may be given a second assignment within the same duty period to avoid drafting. This means that you should only be second assigned when there are no other Reserves available at home or on Standby who are legal, available and able to report in time to cover the open position. Second assignments must also adhere to the Flight Attendant’s “actual” duty maximum, based on the original report time in the duty period.

In order to determine whether you have been given a second assignment or are released to legal rest, Reserves must “block-in” after completing an initial trip assignment using CCS:

Note: If you are unable to access CCS, you must contact Crew Scheduling directly.

Blocking-in is a Contractual requirement. Be sure to block-in after every Reserve assignment to avoid an inadvertent Missed Trip. If you think you have been improperly second assigned, please contact your Local Council. More information can be found in the Reserve Survival Guide.
