Every year, more than 5 million reported cases of skin cancer are diagnosed, making it the most prevalent type of cancer not only in the United States but worldwide. At least 1 in 5 Americans will develop skin cancer by the age of 70, and having 5 or more sunburns doubles your risk for melanoma. However, when detected early, the 5-year survival rate for melanoma is 99%.
To raise awareness and protect yourself from skin cancer, United has partnered with SkinIO, a company that provides free skin cancer screenings in the comfort of your home in just 10 minutes. It offers a fully guided experience where you use your phone to take 13 HIPAA-secure images of your skin (head, torso, arms, legs, and then close-ups). Those who participate in this screening service will receive their results within 2-3 days by phone or email, giving you the option to use your personal email as a preferred method.
Annual exams with your dermatologist are crucial for early detection of skin cancer. To learn more about SkinIO, and this free partnership available to you, please click here.
*SkinIO is available to employees and their covered dependents 18+ who participate in a United-sponsored PPO/EPO plan and who are based in the United States (excluding Guam) or Puerto Rico.
