After more than 30 years of operations, Spirit Airlines ceased all operations at 3:00 AM Eastern Time on Saturday, May 2nd, resulting in the loss of around 17,000 jobs.
Regardless of the wings we wear, aviation connects us with a special and unique bond that only we can understand. On behalf of all United Flight Attendants, our hearts and thoughts go out to everyone who has been affected by the sudden closure of Spirit. We offer a heartfelt thank you to the crewmembers of Spirit Airlines for safely transporting us with professionalism, kindness, care, and as family whenever any of us were onboard your flights.
In our Union and industry, we take care of each other regardless of the uniform we wear. United has extended pass travel benefits for a two-week period to support Spirit employees who may have been traveling and were away from home at the time of the shutdown. Additionally, the company set up a special link for Spirit employees to apply for open positions at United.
While United is not currently accepting applications for non-Language Flight Attendant positions, we are actively and collaboratively engaged with United Inflight management about how we can support Spirit Flight Attendants who would be interested in flying at United.
