Since the launch of the new Flight Attendant uniform kits in 2025, Flight Attendants have reported a variety of issues regarding the new uniforms. While our AFA Uniform Committee, company counterparts, and Brooks Brothers continue discussions, we want to ensure you understand how to report uniform issues, exchange pieces, and submit alteration requests.

Garment Tears, Defects and Other Issues

Flight Attendants who are experiencing issues with their uniforms, specifically with tears or material fading, must submit an email to uniforms@unitedafa.org. Please submit pictures or videos of the specified issue to demonstrate the need for a replacement garment.

The AFA MEC Uniform Committee, chaired by Kimberly Burckhalter, brings these Flight Attendant concerns directly to company management and Brooks Brothers to resolve ongoing uniform issues.

This is the only process in order to receive a new garment if yours is damaged. There is no limit on the length of time from when you originally received your garment to when it then became damaged.

Back Ordered Items

Flight Attendants with back-ordered uniform pieces should forward the email from Brooks Brothers showing the pending back-order status to uniforms@unitedafa.org. The Uniform Committee will reach out to the company counterpart regarding any issues with back-ordered items.

Items that are currently on back order are expected to be fulfilled in October.

Exchanging and Returning Pieces

Flight Attendants who wish to exchange uniform pieces that may not fit properly, or exchange for other optional accessories, must initiate a request in the following manner:

  1. From Flying Together, log on to the Brooks Brothers ordering portal and click “Return Order” to begin the process.
  2. After selecting the items you wish to return, you will receive a QR code that you’ll use at your local FedEx location. The portal will provide you with the closest FedEx location.
  3. An order number will be generated once you complete the exchange, and you can track the status of your replacement through the Brooks Brothers portal or the FedEx Delivery Manager app.

Please note:

  • Exchanges must be shipped using the original packaging or a container you provide. Packaging expenses are not covered by United or FedEx.
  • All exchanges must be initiated and shipped back within 90 days of when your order ships.
  • You cannot exchange garments that have been worn, washed and/or altered.

For those Flight Attendants who would like to exchange Kit A to Kit B, or vice versa, you must exchange all items in your launch kit.

Flight Attendants who are no longer able to wear the wool or polyester garments must submit a Reasonable Accommodation form (RAP) via HelpHub. Once the RAP is approved, a uniform administrator will update your Brooks Brothers profile, and you will have to contact Brooks Brothers customer service to initiate an exchange request.

Alterations

United’s Worksmith program offers approved tailors within the U.S., London, and Guam for Flight Attendants to have their uniform altered. All Flight Attendants receive a $100.00 alteration credit to utilize within their first year of service. For Flight Attendants who received the new uniform during the initial rollout, the $100.00 alteration credit expires on December 31, 2026. This credit will not roll over to 2027. All alteration credits will reset on January 1 of each year.

Worksmith is the primary access point for any alterations to your uniform. However, for those Flight Attendants who do not have a vendor within a reasonable distance, you can utilize a local tailor or dry-cleaning service and submit any expenses through Concur (up to $100.00)

If your preferred tailor is not listed in Worksmith, submit a request to united@worksmith.com to ask whether your tailor is in the United alterations network.

Flight Attendants are encouraged to review the alterations guideline on Flying Together to ensure compliance with any alterations made to their uniform.

Maternity Kits

Flight Attendants who are pregnant and need maternity uniform garments must contact their uniform coordinator or CPO in their domicile.

Flight Attendants are encouraged to report any uniform issues to uniforms@unitedafa.org.
