As published in our June 26, 2025 communication, and consistent with prior years, “Flight Attendants must submit an Absence Certificate for any sick call - paid or unpaid - that originates between July 1 and July 7, 2025.”
The article continues, “If you have had no absences in the past 12 calendar months, this requirement does not apply.”
For those with FMLA, the below guidelines will apply:
-
Paid FMLA (self): Certificate required.
-
Unpaid FMLA (self): Certificate not required.
-
Unpaid FMLA (for family member): Certificate not required.”
However, in recent days, Flight Attendants requesting unpaid FMLA may have been provided incorrect guidance, suggesting that an Absence Certificate for such absences would be required during the July 4 Holiday period.
As a result, the Union and management have worked together to provide clarification to Flight Attendants. The following table reflects the mutual understanding between the company and the Union as to when an Absence Certificate is required and when it is not during the July 4 Holiday period.
Additional guidance has been provided to representatives at FAST to ensure that there is a clear understanding of when an Absence Certificate is required.
