MEC Reserve Committee
Since the beginning of the company's technology failure, we have worked to support Reserve Flight Attendants in the operation. Meanwhile, the company has failed in their communication with the Flight Attendants of United Airlines.
Despite management's shortcomings, AFA has continued to provide Members with frequent and candid updates on the status of the issue. We have maintained near constant contact with the scheduling department at all hours and brought in additional support to cover around the clock. We will continue to provide written communication, FAQs, and further documentation, including timely updates, with special editions of Debrief. When you are working, we are working, and we will continue to apply pressure until this is resolved in favor of Flight Attendants.
Where is the company with the technology fix?
This afternoon, management shared that testing is ongoing for what they refer to as a “mid-term” fix. Once implemented, Flight Attendants will again be able to access the Reserve Availability list in CCS. However, we learned today that this “mid-term” fix is still days away.
We will continue with our current interim process of posting screenshots of the Reserve Availability List to our website until we can confirm the company’s “mid-term” fix is successful. We will also remain ready in the days that follow to resume the process on short notice, in the event there are further disruptions.
We have heard you loud and clear over the course of the company’s technology failure. We understand that AFA’s short-term solution is not perfect, and brings with it other challenges. We will continue to do our best to mitigate these and provide the support you deserve. But when faced with a response from management that was to provide no visibility to Reserves while awaiting a programmatic fix, we simply could not stand idly by.
We continue to press the company for a permanent solution and will explore all options to leverage greater change. We call on senior management to prioritize the technology upgrades necessary, not only to return to Contractual compliance, but to ensure the sustainability of our future objectives; both known and yet unknown. We believe this should be of mutual interest.
